FAQ

How do I join BSA 957?

Each year Pack 957 holds a "Meet the Scout" night before the school year begins. Check the calendar for the date and time of this years event. Leaders will be available to answer your questions, and there will be games and activities for the kids. All of the forms are available for you to join at the event.

Can I join Pack 957 anytime during the school year?

Yes, contact the leaders for the appropriate rank (Tiger -1st grade, Wolf - 2nd grade, Bear - 3rd grade, WEBELOS 1 - 4th grade, or WEBELOS 2 - 5th grade). Feel free to visit one or two of the pack/den meetings before making the decision to join.

My son would like to join, but he is in the 3rd grade. Would he have to earn all of the ranks (Tiger, Wolf, and Bear)?

No. All scouts first earn the Bobcat Badge, then they begin working on the grade appropriate rank. In your son's case, the Bear rank.

What is a den?

The Cub Scouts of Pack 957 are organized into dens of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders, called Tiger Cub Scouts (1st grade), Wolf Cub Scouts (2nd grade), Bear Cub Scouts (3rd grade), 1st Year Webelos (4th grade), and 2nd Year Webelos (5th grade), respectively. Each Den is run by a registered adult Den Leader or Webelos Leader, with the help of one or more registered adult Assistant leaders and various adult volunteers. Dens may have a Boy Scout helper (called a Den Chief) to assist the adult leaders. The Den Leaders work with the Cubmaster and Committee Chairman to keep things running well.

What is a pack?

The entire group of Dens, when combined, is called the Pack. The Pack meets once a month in a Pack meeting, where the Cubmaster hands out the awards that the Cub Scouts have earned during the previous month, with assistance from the Den Leaders and the Assistant Cubmaster. The Cubmaster works with the Committee Chairman and Den Leaders to help ensure that the Dens have the resources necessary to keep on going.

Do I have to buy a uniform?

Yes, we require the scouts to purchase the appropriate class A shirt, neckerchief, and slide. The uniforms are available at the scout shops and other stores. Since, the Cub Scout shirt may be worn for three years (Tiger, Wolf, and Bear), we encourage you to buy the shirt a size or two larger. In addition, you may optionally buy the belt, hat, and pants.

Where can I buy scout supplies?

Where do I put all of the patches, pins, etc.?

Check out the Insignia Guides for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Many of the patches and pins awarded throughout the years (Pinewood Derby patch, Sports and Academic pins, etc.) are temporary, and are not worn on the uniform. These awards are normally displayed on a 'brag' vest or blanket.
