This is an important step for our boys. Many of them need their dad there with them for their first full night in a tent in the woods. We generally see boys "GROW-UP" overnight through the experience of sleeping in a "Boy Scout Camp Tent" with their dads. Beaumont tents are not totally sealed off like modern tents. If they are encouraged, boys begin to love sleeping in the outdoors and the beautiful natural world God has given us. Many of them go from being "scared of the woods" at night to "sleeping out under the stars" without tents later in their teens as boy scouts. Do what you can to adjust you schedules to be with your sons for Dad-n-Lad. You and your son will remember it and talk about it for many years to come, even when he is an adult. |
On Saturday, March 24 from 9AM - 12PM youth and adults from Pack, Troop & Crew 957 (siblings welcome) are going to give back to our Chartering Organization (Calvary Church) by cleaning up the treeline between the parking lot and the soccer/baseball fields. Beginning at the Shelter and working toward the storage shed. The church provides many resources for our units and this project is just one way that we can give back to the church. Everyone is asked to provide loppers, bow saws & work gloves. We need help cutting down brush and hauling the brush up to the parking lot. We also need some trucks and/or trailers along with some St. Peters residents so we can take everything to the St. Peters recycle center to drop off the brush we clear out. We need work coordinators from each unit and a sign up list of attendees! I would like to get 100% family participation! Mark your calendars and be there ready to serve. The unit will provide a hot dog lunch at the end of the work day. |
The Blue & Gold Banquet is our birthday party for Cub Scouting held in February. At the banquet we celebrate all the hard work and achievements of the scouts, parents, and leaders. We encourage the whole family to attend. This is the perfect event to invite the grandparents to attend. Tickets are available for purchase at the den meeting and pack meetings, and must be purchased by the first den meeting in February. The tickets are $5 per person, or $25 per family (kids 3 and under eat free). The tickets are only required for the meal; no ticket is necessary to attend the banquet. The doors will open at 5:45 PM, dinner will be served at 6 PM, and the program will start at 6:45 PM. This is one of the most important events of the year. The Pinewood Derby is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14th, and will be here before you know it. So, take advantage of the Christmas holiday break, and get to work on those cars. The Pack and Troop will be caroling at the Oak Tree Village Retirement Community next Thursday, December 15th at 6 PM (this time was requested by the director, due to their schedule). We'll be meeting at the village at 6 PM, but feel free to join us as soon as you can. The village is located at 363 Jungermann Road, St. Peters, MO 63376, near the stream the unit cleaned-up for Serve Day. Families are encouraged to participate. Please bring 1-2 dozen cookies per family, in non returnable containers. The Christmas songs will be distributed to the scouts at the den/patrol meetings. Did you know that Scouting for Food was started in 1985 by the Greater St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and has since grown into the nation’s most successful single-day food drive. Last year, the Boy Scouts collected 2.1 million cans of food for area food pantries. The food drive has collected more than 43 million cans of food since its inception. We need your help - and so do thousands of hungry people in our community. Our scouts and parents are participating in the annual Scouting for Food drive this fall. The 2011 food drive will take place on two consecutive Saturdays. On November 12, we'll place plastic bags at doorsteps of over 3,000 homes in the area. The following Saturday, November 19, we'll return to pick up the filled bags. Food donated in a particular area will be distributed through relief pantries in that area, including the Calvary Church food pantry. The first Saturday, we'll assemble in the Atrium at Calvary Church at 9AM and we should be finished before noon. The second Saturday, we'll meet in the Gym at Calvary Church at 9:30AM, organize into teams, and start pickup at 10:00AM. Drivers and registered adult passengers are needed to transport the scouts. Parents please try to attend both days with your scouts. We need as many parents as possible to stay at Calvary Church, while the dens deliver the bags, to sort popcorn. When the dens return from delivering the bags, the popcorn should be sorted and ready to go home with the scouts. Mark the dates on your calendars, and stay tuned for for more details to come. We have been invited to attend a special night being sponsored by our own AHG troop. The AHG MO2002 Freshman Patriots are working on the Creative Writing badge. We’re having a guest author come visit us on Tuesday, November 1st and would like to open up the invitation to anyone that may be working on the same or similar badges. Byron von Rosenberg is author of “I Don’t Want to Kiss a Llama”, “Clyde the Unidale” and many other works of prose and poetry http://www.byronvonrosenberg.com/whatdo.html. He also works at the BSA Scout Shop off Lindberg. In return for his speaking with us about what it takes to be an author, he will offer some of his works for purchase. If you would like to attend with us, please let me know by Monday, Oct 31, so I can arrange the appropriate amount of space. The October Pack Meeting is a outdoor campfire. Gather around the campfire for skits, songs, and fireside fun! Dress appropriately (gloves, coats, hats), and bring along chairs and blankets. Feel free to bring along the ingredients for S'mores and hotdogs to roast on the fire. The fees for Dad N Lad are due at this pack meeting. The fees are $32/person, and dad is required to attend. We have submitted the following lottery dates June 16-17; June 30-July 1; July 14-15 at Camp May (Beaumont). Our first choice this year is June 16-17 at Beaumont. If we don't get our first choice the fees are fully refundable. Check out the Events page for more details. Bring your items for the October Service Project (Calvary Food Pantry). Items needed are: travel size shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, as well as toilet paper. Don't forget to practice your den song and skit for the pack meeting. |
Join fellow scout families as we participate in Calvary’s Serve Day on Saturday, October 22nd. We will be serving on project #189: Operation Clean Stream in St. Peters. We'll be cleaning up the stream near the Oak Tree Village Retirement Community. This is the same retirement community where we'll be singing Christmas carols in December. All participants must register in advance to receive lunch and a t-shirt in addition to work gloves for the clean-up. Cub Scouts must have a parent partner attend with them. Those participating will meet in the Calvary Church parking lot at 8:30 AM and shuttle to the site to alleviate parking problems. This project can help you earn your World Conservation Badge. |

Hey All! The Annual Water Rocket Derby was a HUGE success! Thanks to ALL the parents that came out to watch, and assist! We had a great time, and HERE are the photos to prove it! Thanks to Mr. Kiewiet for "LauncherMan", Mr. Brown for "WaterMan", and Mr. Shirrell for "AirMan... ________________________________________________________________________________ On Friday, July 22nd the pack will be hosting a Water play and Water Rocket Derby @ 6:45 PM (until 8:30 PM) in the Calvary Church back parking lot. Build your rocket at home, then join fellow cub scouts in launching egg-manned rockets skyward! It normally takes only an evening (1-2 hours) to build a rocket. It’s a wonderfully fun time that allows each boy to be creative, to build something, to learn how things work, and to have fun. Did I mention FUN. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for Longest Flight Time (parachutes help!!) Save-An-Egg Contest!! What Else? Special Demonstrations of Model Rocket Launches. (If you have a Model Rocket you want to demonstrate contact Dick Shirrell to get on the schedule) Check out the Water Rocket Derby events page for details, and instructions on how to build a rocket. This Friday, August 26th, in the north parking lot at Calvary Church, Pack/Troop/AHG 957 is presenting a DOUBLE FEATURE DRIVE-IN MOVIE! Starting at 8 PM, we will screen the Calvary Church debut of Third Man on the Mountain. This is a 1959 Disney Classic about a boy and a mountain. The second feature is called HOLES. This 2003 movie stars a current Transformers lead man. Bring blankets and chairs as we will have space on the grass in front of the screen (building wall), or you can sit in your camp chairs out in the parking lot. For some of you, this is your first drive-in. Popcorn and soda are provided courtesy of Calvary Church! THANK YOU!!! Remember, there will be small children around!!! DRIVE SLOW! This is a ministry of both Calvary Church, and Unit 957. We will be showing the movie in an area visible from Mid Rivers Mall Drive, and the custard stand across the street. Previously, we were able to draw from both street traffic, and custard stand traffic. Let’s be on our best behavior, and set an example of scouting, and Christian values. The Raingutter Regatta is approaching fast (Friday, September 23). All of the scouts should have already received their boat kits. Check out the Raingutter Regatta event page for rules and hints on building your boat. This year we are not allowing 'cone' shaped sails. The sails must be attached to the boat mast using the two holes provided. Medals are awarded for first, second, and third place for each den, and for the pack. In addition, there will be static awards for Most Colorful, Really Radical, Most Realistic, Most Original, Most Scout Like, Most Christ Like, Most Biblical Theme, and Captain's Choice. |
